- explain how a horticulturist is protected by plant breeder’s rights;

| | | - Class discussion:
- review plant breeding
- review plant characteristics
- review plant breeder’s rights
- Students are given a piece of butcher paper or card and drawing implements to complete the following task:
- Draw and colour your new plant.
- Label the characteristics.
- Write a brief explanation of why you have bred this plant variety: - Will you sell the plant? - Will you sell its fruit? - How will you protect your rights to these profits?
- Students present their drawing to the class along with a brief explanation of their new plant variety.
- Teacher concludes the lesson cluster.
